Trekking

  • Day hiking

It’s wonderful to sleep in a bed at night. Trust us, we know, I’ve spent ten years every summer in a tent. When the weather is too unstable to go camping, day-hiking is the right plan. It’s a great way to discover a landscape in a short time.

  • Backpacking

If you love becoming apart of a landscape: the silence of the forest, the relaxing sound of a stream and sleeping under the stars here’s the trip that you should plan. When you are camping every little thing seems more enjoyable.

Long trek, supported or unsupported, in tent or huts. Time frame: 2 to 9 days.

  • Traverse/Expedition

Connect valleys, summit peaks, discover remote places. We offer big adventures into the deep Andes. These expeditions will take you where few have been. For the experienced hiker/mountaineer that likes to push into the unknown. Time frame: 5 to 20 days.

We offer outdoor experiences for all levels.

Whether you’ve never camped or even TOUCHED a backpack before OR you literally live outside and seek adventure constantly, you should come out with us and you’re perfect for one of our trips. You don’t need to be in perfect shape for us to show you the marvels of this beautiful region. If you want to push yourself physically, we definitely can craft some experiences that you will never forget and help you get there.

Understanding our trekking difficulty rating

We divide each activity (backpacking, mountaineering, packrafting, climbing) into four levels. Here’s how we break it down.

Easy

If this was your first trip in the backcountry doing this activity, this is a good difficulty for you. There might be some days that feel hard, but there’s not very much mileage and there’s plenty of time to take breaks, relax, and enjoy the scenery.

That being said, we still recommend showing up fit for this difficulty. Make sure you have some weekly exercise regimen.

Medium

You’ve done a few of your own backcountry trips. The idea of a 7 km / 5 mile run, or backpacking ten miles on a flat trail, or going on a week long rafting trip, does not sound like a crazy idea to you.

You are willing and ready to take out a mountain pass (with 3000 feet of elevation gain) with a loaded backpack in a day. There might be some long days. You’re ready to try some legitimate off trail routes.

Hard

You love to exercise and get after it on a weekly or daily basis. If you’re a runner, a ten mile run doesn’t sound out of this world hard. You love to bag peaks. Your friends think you have a lot of energy.

The idea of doing two passes in a day on a backpacking route is not insane. You don’t mind bushwacking or thrashing through the jungle for a little bit to get to tree line. You’re stable in river crossings. You plan your life around challenging adventures.

Very hard

If you sit still for a few days, you feel antsy. You could accomplish a 30 km / 20 mile run. You’re someone who needs to challenge yourself physically every day.

Some things you might’ve done: gone on a mountaineering expedition, backcountry skiing, run on trails for over 15 miles / 20 km, climbed multiple peaks over 3000m / 10,000 feet, gone on a long unsupported backpacking trip.

A 15 km / 10 mile day off trail might be about average on a trip like this.  If you like to be exhausted, and can handle doing back to back long days with not a ton of recovery time, this is the trip's difficulty for you.

Off trail… what exactly does it mean?

A good rule to gauge how hard it is to walk off trail is to double the distance. If you can backpack 30 km / 20 miles in a day on trail, then you can probably do 15 km / 10 miles off trail. The terrain will have loose rock (look at the image to the right of Evan navigating some moraine), occasional bushwhacking, river crossings with no bridges, sand, slippery vegetation, and other surprises. Trekking poles are mandatory.

Can I book a trip for my whole family?

Absolutely. We love working with kids of all ages and can arrange for a trip that caters to the interests of both the parents and their children.
